It’s an unusual post title, no doubt about that, but we’re mid-week already and it’s drizzly and cold outside, so I figured that conjuring up images of Johnny Depp as the clever and oh-so-hot Jack Sparrow might spread a little cheer!

I’m feeling better already, how about you?
As much as I’d love to spend the day posting photos of Johnny Depp, this post is really to show you a little treasure I found on Kijiji about a month ago. I scope out sites like Kijiji, craigslist and eBay often because you just never know when you’re going to find that special something and when I saw this original, signed ink drawing of a port scene, I just couldn’t resist.

Here are some close-ups to show more detail:

The background looks a lot greyer than it actually is, but my camera wouldn’t co-operate! This drawing makes me think of the summer trips to Spain I took as a child to visit family and all the little fishing villages we would see. The seller said the drawing was from the 1920s or 30s and the artist had written the name of a port on the back, but unfortunately, it’s illegible.
The drawing came in a VERY old frame that felt like it would crumble to pieces if I handled it too much! I doubt I could have hung it up without it coming down with a crash, so I decided to have it reframed (which is why it’s taken a month to show it to you!) Here is the frame it came in:

The whole thing was held together by these squared off pegs inserted into tiny worn out holes in the back of the frame.

Doesn’t it look like something that came out of Jack Sparrow’s pirate ship??? See, it all comes around full circle!

Another reason for reframing the drawing was that it was really starting to yellow in its current state, so getting it professionally framed would extend the life of this lovely piece of art. I paid a whopping $40 for the drawing and it cost around $120 to frame, but when you find an original piece of art that speaks to you, I think it’s worth the investment. So here it is, in all its reframed glory!

Now to find a spot for my little port scene. I’m really happy with the way it turned out and it goes to show that “Not all treasure’s silver and gold, mate”.
What fantastic art have you found on sites like kijiji and craigslist? Did it inspire a Johnny Depp reference too?
